1st Cong. Guillermo A. Romarate, Jr. Inter-Municipality Basketball Tournament

GIGAQUIT, SURIGAO DEL NORTE (AUGUST 26, 2007)

The town’s 157th annual town fiesta celebration was a resounding success. Under the leadership of the town mayor, Hon. Carlos M. Egay, Sr. and this year’s season director, Engr. Restituto E. Mira, Jr., series of activities were conducted and was highlighted by the 1st Cong. Guillermo A. Romarate, Jr.Inter-Municipality Basketball Tournament.
Five teams each from the Municipality of Claver, Bacuag, Sison, Placer and of the town itself, joined. A parade opened the tournament in which the players with their respective beautiful muses gaily marched around the town even under the scorching heat of the sun.

A short prayer followed, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Jun A. Balberia, DCS, gave the invocation, Hon. Shemavel E. Verdon, the SK Federated President, and the Sports Committee Chairman gave her welcome address. The teams were presented by Mr. Jaime A. Adlao, the tournament’s sports coordinator, Mr. Ronald A. Eupeña, the tournament director, read the tournament’s ground rules. The honorable vice mayor, Hon. Felixberto R. Jala who ably represented the mayor gave his message and Engr. Restituto E. Mira, Jr. closed the opening program thanking everyone present on that occasion. The program was hosted by Miss Gilda S. Moleta.

Teams from Bacuag and from Sison competitively played the first game, Placer versus Claver followed with a fiery second game. The excitement increased as each player displayed his playing prowess in order to capture the coveted victory. All throughout the games, same pairs of teams were adjudged even by spectators to battle through the championship. The team from Gigaquit itself was not lucky enough to make it not even winning a single game. The teams fought their best much to the excitement of the town people.

In the end Placer team was proclaimed champion, Claver and Sison won the 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
