GCC Scholar #8 Laurito Dao, Jr.: Search for Guardian

Laurito Dao, Jr. a graduate of the GNSHI Class 2012, is the top candidate for GCC scholarship.  He qualified for the Provincial Government "Iskolaran' project so his schooling is now supported but only for the tuition fee.  He is already enrolled at the Surigao State College of Technology.

However, until now we have not found a guardian where he can stay in Surigao City.  We would like therefore to ask for help to find the household who can take him in.  Hoping for your support Dear kababayans.

Mrs. Jimiross Digol, a Gigaquitnon who is with the Judicial Court in Surigao City is the Guardian for GCC Scholar # 8.

She will shoulder the board, lodging and other expenses relating to the schooling of Laurito Dao, Jr. except the tuition fee.

We are very happy with the swift result in finding the guardian for scholar # 8.

GCC Scholar #0002 Enrolled for the Second Year at the SSCT

Mr. Jun Galolo, the scholar #2 was already enrolled two weeks at the Surigao State College of Technology.

The donor shouldering all of his tuition fee is Mrs. Angela Larong Macasero.

His guardians are Mr. Lino Uzon and his wife, Councilor Fe Uzon.

GCC 5th Year Anniversary

The Gigaquit Civic Club will be 5 years old this coming May 23, 2012!  On this date, there will be a simple gathering at Bo's Coffee, Glorietta 5 in Makati City from 6pm to 10pm.  Interested Gigaquitnons may join.

GCC MILESTONES:

October 2006 - First organizational meeting in Makati City

May 23, 2007 - Formally registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission

August 19, 2007 - Gigaquit Online formally launched

December 2007 - GCC began discussions on education projects including scholarship

March 24, 2008 - Jinawa revival and Gakit Amazing Race discussed by GCC with then Municipal Tourism Officer Buboy Pingal at the Mall of Asia

September 8, 2008 - Jinawa Festival formally discussed with Gigaquit LGU at the Municipal Hall in Gigaquit

November 1, 2008 - First Jinawa Festival held in Gigaquit

December 2008 - Gakit Amazing Race modified to Gakit Festival and was scheduled on January 25, 2009

January 2009 - Gakit Festival postponed as Doot Beach damaged by water surge

February 2009 - very first screening for GCC Tabang Paeskuyla (GCC Scholarship) was held at the GNSHI

March 13, 2009 - First Gakit Festival was finally held at Doot Beach

April  2009 - First GCC Scholar chosen

May 2011 - Scholar # 2, #3 and #4 selected

April 2012 - Scholar # 5, # 6 and # 7 selected

April 9, 2012 - Tree planting project discussed by GCC representative Steven Egay with Gigaquit LGU, Surigao Economic Dev't Foundation, Barangay Poniente Officials and Poniente-Camboayon (Poncam) Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Barangay Poniente Poncam office

May 2012 - Gigaquitnon Service and Multi-Purpose Cooperative spinned off from GCC to pursue business-related discussions

May 2012 - GCC advocacies on Gigaquit heritage where transferred to Gigaquit Historical Society.  From thereon GCC will focus on education, environment and wildlife conservation.

GCC Scholar # 5 and # 6 Enrolled for the 1st Year

Ms. Maela Fabella and Ms. Jenny Grace Sumaoy, the so-called GCC scholars # 5 and # 6 respectively, will start their first year college studies at Access Computer College (ACC).

They were already enrolled yesterday, May 19, 2012.

Ms. Fabella will take up Hotel Restaurant Services while Ms. Sumaoy will try Computer Secretarial. Both are 2-year courses but under the ladderized system, they can opt to proceed to finish their courses with a 4-year Bachelor degree. By adding 2 more years of studies after finishing Hotel Restaurant Services, one can get BS Hotel Restaurant Management or BS Tourism. On the other hand, after Computer Secretarial one can proceed to recieve BS in Office Administration.

The tuition fees of the above students are shouldered by the Gigaquit Civic Club through donations, while the rest of the expenses are taken cared of by their guardians.
