My cousin who is working with ABS-CBN Europe wrote this article . . . please click the title >>

Swiss cop quits job to help kids in Philippines

This is a moving story which made me think of a few things like:
1. It is embarrassing that a foreigner would have to do it for our kids?
2. Why not do it ourselves . . . not only for the sake of compassion but also for our self-respect?

I know that you cannot give something that you don't have. So this challenge of compassion and charity that I would raise is addressed to "The Have's" of Philippine society. For us Gigaquitnons in particular, this is addressed to our well-off kababayans.

By the way, I would like to cite the Gigaquitnons who have supported the Gigaquit Civic Club (GCC) projects especially our Scholarship initiative. Your help is much appreciated. This business of helping our less fortunate kababayans is the business of all Gigaquitnons . . . not just of the GCC.

We also appreciate those Gigaquitnons who are doing their share in a silent manner. Their activities may not be very visible but am aware of their efforts to help not only relatives but also others finish their education.

Lastly, I remember the adage "No man is so poor that he cannot help, and no man is so rich that he will not be in need of assistance" (I can't remember the exact words but the idea is the same). So to those who does not have the financial wherewithal, you could still help through your talents, efforts and time. For example, you can help the GCC solicit for our projects. Another is communicate our "mission"to those who have not read or heard about what we are trying to do. And several other possibilities . . .
